Melisse Shaban – Founding Partner
Melisse Shaban is a strategist and marketer of innovative retail concepts in the health and beauty industry. With more than 25 years of experience in consumer applications, she has demonstrated expertise in skin care, hair care, retail operations, and molding medical service concepts into viable consumer brands.
In January 2005 she established Chrysallis, a full-service management team dedicated to the nurturing and development of niche retail brands to position them for future growth and success. As head of Chrysallis, Melisse is charged with identifying unique concepts for investment, development, and growth, as well as leading growth strategies for her clients’ brand portfolios.
In this role to date, she has overseen investments in companies including StriVectin, the fastest growing prestige anti-aging skin care brand in America, Frédéric Fekkai, a leading prestige hair care and salon brand, and Niadyne, Inc., a company dedicated to the discovery and development of topical products for the treatment and prevention of sun damage to the skin. Under her leadership, the Fekkai company achieved year-on-year double-digit growth, which led to the acquisition of Fekkai by the Procter & Gamble Company in May 2008.
Prior to Chrysallis, Melisse served as Head of Consumer Genomics for Genaissance Pharmaceuticals, with primary responsibility for identifying consumer applications for genetic discoveries, leading to a successful joint venture with Sciona, Inc., a genetic science firm based in the U.K.
Her previous roles have included a variety of leadership positions for globally known brands, including servings as Chief Operating Officer & General Manager of the U.S. Division of The Body Shop, the global beauty retailer, and General Manager of the Aveda Corp. She began her career as an Account Director with Revlon, where she was responsible for product development for department store distribution.
Michael Fishoff – Managing Partner
Michael Fishoff is a financial and operating executive with 35 years of experience in the public and private arena, primarily in consumer products industries. His expertise and experience have spanned global assignments, including two years in the European Headquarters for Bristol Myers, and serving as the global CFO for Coty Inc., a $4 billion privately held manufacturer and marketer of perfumes and cosmetics.
Most recently, Michael served as CFO / COO of StriVectin Operating Co., where he oversaw the upgrading of financial analysis, bank negotiations, and operating logistics savings. In prior roles, he has had significant experience in acquisitions and divestitures, including negotiating and integrating post-acquisition (Clairol divestiture to P&G), and acquisition of licenses (Calvin Klein fragrances, Marc Jacobs, and Kenneth Cole, among others).
Randall Williamson – Partner
Randall Williamson is a seasoned communications professional with proven expertise in marketing communications, public relations and social media for consumer products and services in the health and beauty industry. Through both agency and in-house assignments, he has 20 years of experience in developing programs across a broad range of disciplines and a constantly evolving communications landscape.
Randy currently works with Chrysallis Consumer Partners, advising innovative health and beauty brands on communications-related growth initiatives. As an independent consultant, he also provides strategic services on a project basis to leading corporations in the health and beauty industry.
Randy began his career in the communications department of the US headquarters of The Body Shop, working directly with the company’s iconoclastic founder, Anita Roddick, on a number of special projects, including speeches, public appearances, corporate social responsibility campaigns, marketing materials, and newspaper opinion pieces. Since then, he has developed and implemented communications strategies for many well-known brands, ranging from mass to prestige, and from global brands to start-ups. Some of the companies he has worked with include Maybelline, Garnier, Shiseido, Prada Beauty, Creed, StriVectin, NIA 24 Niacin-Powered Skin Therapy, and Frédéric Fekkai hair care and salons.

Karl Rodger – Partner
Mr. Rodger has focused on lower middle market acquisitions for his entire career. Most recently, he was an Associate at Carrboro Capital, a Chapel Hill-based private equity group, during the firm’s successful acquisition of A Southern Season and HMI, inc.
Prior to Carrboro Capital, Mr. Rodger focused on acquiring and managing middle market companies with The Riverside Company in New York City. Mr. Rodger invested out of Riverside’s $1.1 billion dollar North American buyout fund and has participated at the board and ground level with numerous Riverside portfolio companies. Prior to Riverside, Mr. Rodger was an analyst with Harris Williams & Co., where he advised public and private companies on mergers and acquisitions in a wide variety of industries.
Mr. Rodger received his MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and a B.A. in Economics, with a minor in Corporate Strategy, magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University.
Matt Zuga – Advisor
Matt Zuga is a Managing Director of Syngenta Ventures, an investment vehicle of Syngenta Corp., a Switzerland based agribusiness company. He was a founder and managing member of Red Abbey Venture Partners, where he remains a member of the Investment Committee. At Red Abbey, Matt was responsible for managing all of the firm’s investments, which consisted of 24 companies, 15 privately held and 9 publicly traded, (http://www.redabbey.com/portfolio.htm). In addition to the above, Matt is currently the Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alba Therapeutics, Inc.
Prior to Red Abbey Venture Partners, Matt worked in the investment banking department of Legg Mason Wood Walker, Inc. from 1993 to 2003, and was the Head of the Life Sciences Group from May 2000 to December 2003. His prior work experience includes positions at Raymond James & Associates, Inc. (investment banking), Southeast Bank, N.A. (commercial lending), IBM Corporation (finance department) and General Motors Corporation (industrial engineering). Additionally, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Arginetix, Inc. and a Board observer at Advanced BioHealing, Aegerion Pharmaceutical, Sirtris Pharmaceuticals and Stromedix, Inc.
From 1985 to 1991, Matt was a member of the United States Air National Guard (Ohio and Florida). He received an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BS in Business Administration/Finance from The Ohio State University.
